I have a twelve year old, and I found out a week ago that an 11 year old girl ask him out. Last Monday he tells me , "mom I want to show you a picture of my girlfriend" What!!!!..
I said, what do you mean your girlfriend? your too young to have a girlfriend.
I was hoping he was joking with me, but no, he show me a picture of a young girl, he tells me her name.
He ask me, so do you think she is pretty? All I can tell him was, tell me your joking, tell me you are joking. He told me that she ask him out, she wears nice sneakers and she is good in basketball.
I was speechless for a minute. This is my first born. I am not ready for this. I told him that I will talk to him in the afternoon, and for now to please concentrated on class work. I didn't want him to lower his grades. Since I have class on Monday nights, I couldn't have the talk with him.
Tuesday morning before school I woke him up and ask him about his friend. we had a short conversation, and I told him that its ok to have a crush in Elementary, but I remind him that he will be going to middle school next year and he needs to concentrate on his grade and to make sure he is accepted in the Middle School basketball team. I'am clueless on how to handle the situation, his only twelve and I know that they are just kids, but I guess I don't understand since he is no young. when I was twelve I was still playing with Barbie, and boys were the last thing on my mind. I'am just keeping an eye on him, and when I see him texting to much, I just take the phone away and tell him to go play outside..cant wait for the school year to end.
